Biological applications | ,|
biological activity | BAPTA is a non-permeable, selective calcium ion chelator, the affinity for Ca2 is 105-fold higher than for Mg2. BAPTA is a valuable tool for studying the role of calcium in cell signaling. |
Target | Ca 2 chelator |
Use | calcium selective chelator.(logKCa = 6.97,logKMg = 1.77), the basic chelating unit is similar to EDTA, and only two fatty nitrogen are replaced by aromatic nitrogen. Therefore, BAPTA will not be protonated at physiological pH. pKa3 was 5.47 and pKa4 was 6.36. This shows that deprotonation is not included in the Ca chelation step. The chelation rate is higher than that of EGTA because it is not interfered by protons. BAPTA-AM is a BAPTA acetyl methyl ester derivative, which is easily loaded into cells by the AM method. BAPTA-AM is useful for intracellular calcium monitoring |
